Tata Steel, ABB Ink MoU Focused on Low-CO2 Solutions
09/07/2023 - Tata Steel and ABB have agreed to work together on developing models and technologies intended to reduce steel’s carbon footprint.
In a statement, ABB said that under a memorandum of understanding, the two will focus on system-level, short- and long-term options for energy efficiency, decarbonization and circularity at Tata Steel plants.
Among those options, ABB said, is the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for upstream processes and energy reduction and substitution.
“Steel companies know there are opportunities to improve their processes, and Tata Steel is one of the leaders in this movement towards energy efficiency and reduction of carbon footprint,” said Vipul Gautam, said ABB Group vice president and global account executive for Tata Group.
“ABB is confident in working with our customers and partners to evolve how steelmaking is powered to help reach production and environmental targets,” he said.
